What is EMDR Therapy Weekly?

With this specialized approach EMDR therapy can be done in person or through telehealth. It uses a technique called bilateral stimulation—gentle left-right movements that help your brain reprocess painful memories.

The goal isn’t to erase or forget what happened. Instead, EMDR helps your nervous system let go of the emotional pain tied to those memories.

You’ll still remember the facts. But you won’t feel hijacked by racing thoughts, flashbacks, emotional shutdown, or the intense urge to run away.

  • By reprocessing old memories, EMDR helps your nervous system move forward—without getting stuck in rumination or the endless loop of “what if I had done something different?”

    As the emotional charge fades, you can update the beliefs that were holding you back—and start focusing on what truly matters to you now.

  • EMDR is structured with minimal talking to allow the process to work effectively and we use 8 phases to do this. However, you’re a human being and can’t be fit into a structured 8 phases so we adjust based off of your individual needs for reprocessing. We work to address the beliefs and sensations that you have from those memories where maybe cognitively you know things are the way they are but your body doesn’t feel fully on board and we help them both be on the same page.

who it’s not for

EMDR Therapy Weekly is not for you if…

  • You’re actively struggling with suicidality and need group support.

  • Also if you are wanting to get past a traumatic event, healing from an affair, have childhood trauma in the way of your closest relationships.

  • If you don’t have time to commit to weekly therapy for at least 6 to 8 weeks, then an intensive may be more beneficial if you have limited time.

  • If you are outside of Florida, then a weekend intensive in-person would be better for you.

    • Since EMDR comes from an inner child/childhood approach I utilize it highly for childhood trauma or even just the root of negative beliefs about yourself from your earliest memories. It is okay if you do not fully remember parts of your childhood, we can still work with that.

  • Yes, most commercial insurance plans allow for one session per day. I am in-network with BCBS, Aetna, and Cigna.

  • EMDR Intensives are offered as 90 minute (upon request) and 1-day and 2-day sessions. We are reprocessing content for 3 hours per day. This allows us to go deeper because we are doing multiple hours of getting through material that may not come up until the end of a weekly session. Weekly is great if you are looking to use your insurance and are okay with the stop-start of reprocessing.

  • A lot of the processing is done in the subconscious mind which is where the greatest growth happens. Compared to talk therapy we are setting up where to begin processing and only reviewing some of the content that comes up in between reprocessing.

  • $150 a session.

  • We will schedule a free consultation and discuss your symptoms and where you are at as well as the goals you have. If you have developed some great coping skills on your own or previous therapy and need to get past a phobia, negative belief about yourself or relationship pattern. We may begin by installing resources to help you with additional coping and then begin reprocessing part of the memory. Most clients are capable of doing EMDR, if I find that it is too challenging for you then Rapid Resolution Therapy (another modality) may be helpful or we may need to do some Neurofeedback first.
